Blenheim Palace

This was our first free day of the program. Annie, Lauren and I went to Woodstock to see Blemheim palace. It was given to the Duke of Marlborough as a gift and is where Winston Churchill was born.
We had to take a 30 minute bus ride to woodstock. We asked two ladies where the bus stop was and they kindly pointed it out to us: "oh, its right down this street. There used to be a bus-shelter there but the bus-driver ran it over"
after that boost of confidence we got on the bus. The bus driver was really helpful and when we told him where we wanted to go he dropped us off at the special side gate so we could get in for free. It was a double-decker bus so we went right to the top front. It was really fun and we got a really good view of the country side. The roads are so narrow I don't know how bus drivers manage. Sometimes I felt like we were on a roller coaster.
The palace is HUGE! I can’t believe people actually used to live in places like that. It has a very pretty bridge and a cool gift shop. It looks like its worthwhile paying to get inside the palace so we may come back when it’s open sometime in mid-March. The town of woodstock is also quite pretty with a cool museum that we didn't really get to see much of. We'll have to come back. Posted by Picasa
