What I did last night

Last night we went to a Spring Ball. Abbey went to it instead of her prom and invited us as her dates. Then we found out when we got there that she had another date so she didn't even dance with us! It was fun, I fell completely on my butt while doing the Virginia Reel.
I finished my job at the book store boxing books and now I don't have any work anymore. I'm not too sure what my summer is going to be like at this point. My summer class might be canceled and I don't have a job. We might be going to Cape May in about a week to visit my grandparents and the ocean. Today I went on a walk with my sisters and it started to hail. I only hope the rest of the summer is filled with pleasant suprises like that.

Back at Home

I think I'm pretty much updated right now. I have tons more pictures but it would take me months to wade through them... or at least a good twenty minutes. I still can't believe I was really in all those places. I keep looking back over my blog like it's someone elses. "Who are all these pictures of? Geez that girl looks a lot like me." OK, that's the last time I'm going to take a direct quote from my own head.
So since then I'm been job hunting and now I'm working on 2 or 3 part time jobs. I'm at a greenhouse as a waterer and dead-header extrodinaire, at the college bookstore as a boxer (I put books in boxes, I don't take out college students with attitudes) and at a restaurant as a waitress. I'm also going to be starting a summer class in about 4 weeks. I'm keeping busy this summer.
And, in all the places I've been I guess Potsdam still has them beat for sunsets. I took this picture a few days after I got home.

I started this blog mainly to keep in touch with family far away as I was in different countries. We'll see if I can keep it going now that I am back in my old haunts again. Although I think I've done some of my best writing when I'm bored. It requires more creativity! Posted by Picasa

Athens

The Olympic Stadium from a distance. This was built to house the 1886 games.

They don't have parking lots there, at least not like we do. People parked on the sidewalks or anywhere they could.

The ancient and the modern, in a strange but necessary blend. Posted by Picasa

Solid Marble

Greek artifacts... just sort of lying around. There are so many sculptures, pillars, blocks of marble... The current city of Athens was just built on top of the ancient city. When they were building the subway they dug up tons of this stuff.

Jesus staring down at us from the ceiling... a little scary. Posted by Picasa

Greek Orthodox Churches

now we can see where they get the colors for their flag.

very different from English or American churches.

The church was decorated with purple ribbons in preparation for Easter. Purple is the color of mourning. They are in mourning until Easter when Christ rises again!

Twice Panayiota made me light 12 candles for each member of my family. I made a nice little bonfire while they lit their 3 candles. Posted by Picasa

Greek Food

Fish with their heads and tails still entact. Nickolas picked one up and started playing with it. He wanted to take it home with him.

mmmmm....

The Sea

The sea was even brighter in real life... it looked like a giant jewel sparkling under the sun.

thallasa - Greek word for "sea". I'm spelling it phonetically of course.

me swimming... the water was not as warm as it looks. Posted by Picasa

More Shots of Greece

Nickolas, my Greek boyfriend (he's two)

Me, Panyiota, Yiannes, and Nickolas (I might not be spelling these correctly)

The Acropolis

The ancient theater.

These are the steps the Apostle Paul would have climbed to preach to the Athenians.

Panayiota, me and Mary - our unofficial tour guide. Posted by Picasa

This isn't the first thing we did but I thought I'd start out with these pictures. The Acropolis means "The edge of the city". This stuff is ancient! And I thought Britain had old buildings... These all came at least 2 thousand years before England's oldest buildings. And they're made of solid marble! Posted by Picasa

Greece!

If I even have any readers left I will now try to post pictures of Greece. My time in England ended on the 10 and the same day I flew to Athens. Said goodbye to the girls in the airport, and then waited around with my luggage, then had to wait even longer because there was a three hour delay... but I finally got there! Iannes picked me up at the airport I got to their house and Panayiota and written me signs that said "Welcome to Greece, Carly!" I felt really tired, sweaty and dirty but they made me feel so good to be there. Posted by Picasa
