Wally got to get on the globe stage; something we weren't allowed to do. Cool place to see though. I'd like to see a play performed here. Our tour guide was really great, he was a Shakespearean actor and kept throwing in these quotes from plays. Posted by Picasa

Big Ben, the eye of London, and yes, a rainbow... I took this picture while walking down the street in the midst of a light shower. Posted by Picasa

Back from Traveling the Globe

Hi people! I'm back from travel break. I have a lot of pictures to blog and I'm technically supposed to be working on assignments now so it seems like the perfect time start uploading my pictures! I'm going to start with London; because that's where our trip started. Here's Wally relaxing with a cup of tea in the Foreign Missions Club, where we stayed in London. Posted by Picasa

I finished my papers!!! woot! I rewarded myself by buying some cadbury chocolate bars... soo good. Tonight is packing and Thursday and Friday is London. We'll be visiting the Parliment buildings and and even having some discussion with MPs and knights and lords and ladies about their views on Canadian policy. We are supposed to prepare intelligent questions... my excuse is that I'm not Canadian. Friday is the Globe theater which will be amazing even though we're not actually going to see something performed there. Both nights we're going to plays: A Midsummer Night's Dream, and the Wild Duck. After that Lauren, Annie, Sarah and I are going to Edinburgh, Inverness and Aberdeen; and then we're taking a plane from Aberdeen to Dublin and are spending four days there. I'm really excited about it and will probably post a lot of pictures in 10 days or so. Hopefully I'll see some puffins, I think Wally would like that. I see pictures of puffins in all the guide books so there had better be some in Scotland!

ArchAngel Michael subduing Lucifer. This sculpture may not look that big, but it was larger than life like everything in the cathedral. Lucifer's eyes were about the size of my fist. Posted by Picasa

gold plated cross sculpture. In the middle are three medieval nails salvaged from the burned roof of the old cathedral. Posted by Picasa

Victorian Hats Posted by Picasa

Saturday we visited Warwick Castle and Coventry Cathedral. It was so tiring but so amazing. Parts of Warwick castle were built as old as 1050 ad. Since then more parts have been added and during the Victorian era the inside of the rooms were redone quite lavishly. It’s funny because me and some of the girls watched Vanity Fair last night and some of the rooms and wax figures looked exactly like the movie. Annie, Lauren and I had a lot of fun with those was figures… as the pictures are proof of that. As much as we enjoyed poking fun at the wax figures it was pretty amazing to think that people like that actually lived there at one point.
After Warwick castle we went to Coventry Cathedral which really blew me away. Well, it had been blown away as well in the 2nd World War. My host dad was telling me his grandfather was a fire-fighter during world war II and was one of the guys that failed to put out the fire. The ruins of the cathedral are amazing. They built a new one right next to it to symbolize the growth and recovery from the war and the reuniting of nations torn asunder. I think words would fail to describe it…. Just enjoy the pictures. Posted by Picasa
