A Duck in Victoria park!!!

Time is strange here. There either seems to be too much of it or not enough. On the days when we have events we are running around all day, but the days when we have nothing planned we are sort of stranded in Charlbury with nothing to do except read and write reviews and who wants do do that?
But anyways, last week was hectic especially Saturday; next week will be as well, but today was a big long day of nothing.
In this day of nothing I discovered this website that I think people should go to if you've ever had the burning desire to find out what celebrity you look like: www.myheritage.com
my most common results were Mischa Barton, Drew Barrymore, Katie Holmes and Brendon Frasier. Posted by Picasa

The Jane Austen Center

Her writing desk. If you look at the index-sized card on the right it is about the size of paper that Austen wrote all her work in. She was incredibly modest and wanted something small enough that she could hind away easily if someone walked in on her writing. Posted by Picasa

A letter she wrote to her sister. Couldn't really read it; guess brilliance and bad hand-writing go hand in hand. Posted by Picasa

Bath

The fountain from where they served us glasses of disgusting water from the hot springs with supposed rejuvenating effects. It was warm and tasted like sulfur water. If rejuivenating means feeling sick to your stomach than it was very effective! Posted by Picasa

Bath

When the Romans invaded England in around 43AD they built buildings similar to the ones they had in Italy. They converted the hotsprings into these Baths. Naked Romans of yore used to bathe here. As time passed new buildings were built over the old roman stuff which is why this bath is sunk so low. This was actually the level of the ground back in the day. Anyway, that was a long process to simply say that the bath, the tiled floor around the bath and the base of the columns are roman but the rest was added when it was found in the early 1900's. It looks good though. Georgian architecture looks similar to Roman. not that I know that much about it but there are certainly a lot of pillars and columns. Posted by Picasa

Bath

Friday we had our first and last performance of A Midsummer Night's Dream, Saturday morning was cleanup. And then Lauren and I took off to go to Bath for two nights because we had no class on Monday. It was an amazing, completely relaxing weekend. We got to walk the streets where Jane Austen once walked which was pretty amazing; although we learned by going to the Jane Austen Center that she didn't actually like Bath. She had to live her for the final years of her father's life and a little while after his death and hated the hypocrisy of the money and status hungry middle-class. But I looked on Bath more like Catherine from Northanger Abbey . "who could ever tire of Bath!" Posted by Picasa

It's Over!!!

What a relief when it was all over. Madeline threw us a cast-party. We had pizza and beer, pulled out the kitchen table and danced. We had a lot of pent up energy and it was good to expend it in a positive way instead of snapping at each other! Regardless of how hard the week was in some ways it was a good bonding experience and there were definately a lot of "I love you!" and "I'm going to miss you!". Posted by Picasa
